Strand 5

Student Strand: Student-Led Cooperation Initiatives

  • Proposals for joint student conferences, hackathons, or competitions that bring together students from all four countries.
  • Ideas for digital platforms or forums where students can collaborate on projects or share experiences.
  • Suggestions for student exchange or internship programs, including virtual exchanges for those unable to travel.
  • Student perspectives on overcoming political and cultural barriers to cooperation.
  • Initiatives for peer-to-peer mentoring, language exchange, or joint community service projects.
  • Recommendations for including student voices in policy and curriculum development discussions.

Where do we go from here?

We see it as important that students are active in their university experience and are given the opportunities to lead initiatives. Suggest initiatives for student led cooperation.

For example:

  • Rotating Leadership Committees: Establish student committees with representatives from each university that rotate leadership roles regularly. These committees can coordinate joint projects, organize events, and ensure equitable student input across countries.

  • Thematic Working Groups: Create student-led working groups focused on thematic issues (e.g., climate change, technology innovation, social justice) that meet regularly online. These groups can develop collaborative projects or research agendas relevant to all countries.

  • Virtual Idea Incubators: Launch virtual incubator programs where student teams from different countries jointly develop startup or social enterprise ideas. Mentor sessions, pitch events, and collaborative workshops can be scheduled throughout the academic year. The students would work with real businesses and AI bots acting as clients to clarify the product.

  • Joint Cultural Showcases: Organize virtual or hybrid cultural festivals where students showcase artistic performances, culinary traditions, and cultural heritage from their countries. This promotes intercultural appreciation and creativity.

  • Peer Review Circles: In addition to presentation meetings, form peer review circles where students exchange drafts of papers, projects, or proposals in small groups across countries for constructive feedback and improvement. This will also allow students to collaborate on research

  • Student-Led Policy Forums: Regular forums led by students to discuss university policies, regional education priorities, and cross-border challenges. These forums can produce student-driven policy recommendations. students should be an integral part of the decision process at the respective universities and be invited to discussion forums that affect them.

We would like to try to get grants to enable our students to visit other countries as we see this as being the ultimate intercultural experience. This could be for a few weeks or a whole semester.
